Joseph spent 15 years working in the Investment Industry in Edinburgh and London, laterally as the Head of Strategy and Business Management for Aberdeen Standard Investments.
Joseph holds post graduate qualifications from Stanford in Strategy & Risk Management, an Executive MBA from the University of Edinburgh, a BSc in Biotechnology & Applied Genetics and several certifications in investment and finance.
For over 20 years, as founder and consultant, Mark has delivered software for Fintech, National Government, Retail and Charity sectors. Teaching at conferences and learning his trade from the best in the world.
At home, Mark has 2 spaniels called Minnie and Moose and spends a lot of his spare time with his head in the clouds hill-walking around the Cairngorms where he lives. He dreams of owning a small Marina on the Med, with a little B&B and a paddock for 2 horses.
Co-founder and our head of Aveni Labs is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and an internationally recognised expert in Natural Language Processing. Her work on sub-word units and data-augmentation has led to greatly increased performance in machine translation and other fields. Her main motivation has always been to develop tools that make an impact on people’s lives. Out of the lab, she is exploring Scotland on foot, canoe and bicycle with her three lively daughters.
Barry has been a researcher in the University of Edinburgh’s School of Informatics since 2005. His research has been about making computers do useful things with text, such as pulling important information out of it, or translating the text into other languages. Barry was one of the pioneers of the neural network approach to machine translation, which has significantly boosted its quality. His aim with Aveni is to make sure the latest and greatest of language technology are applied to solve real customer problems.
Outside of work, Barry enjoys cycling, hill-walking and camping, and spending time with his two daughters.
Jamie, is a Chartered Accountant who spent 13 years in the Investment industry, latterly as Head of Business Partnering and Planning for Aberdeen Standard Investments. Jamie is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and holds a Bachelor of Accountancy and Finance from the University of Glasgow.
Jamie once loved to travel and socialise but now spends his time juggling his new born twins Finlay and Lucy along with his 2 year old Jack.
Following a long career in reinsurance, the last 17 of which were based in SE Asia as CEO of Allianz Global Risks, Asia Pacific and the Middle East and latterly as a Lloyds Underwriter, Moray founded a marine engineering company in Finland in 2012.
A serial investor he holds or has held executive and/or non executive directorships across a wide spectrum of businesses based in UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and India as well as running a number of his own family companies focussed on investment and consultancy.
Born in Elgin and a proud Scot, he was educated at Elgin Academy, Robert Gordon’s University and later at INSEAD. He now lives in rural Northumberland where any spare time is given over to family, cycling, golf, music, reading and travel.
Eddy’s has worked for thirty years in the UK long-term savings market across retail, wholesale and institutional channels, and across fund management, product development, sales and marketing functions.
Born and schooled in Scotland, Eddy then studied maths at Manchester University and has since worked mainly in Edinburgh as well as in London. Most recently he was Managing Director for Marketing and Propositions at Standard Life and Managing Director for Standard Life Savings. Eddy has also worked at Kaimes Capital, Scottish Widows Investment Partnership and Lloyds Private Bank.
Outside of work time is spent transporting children between various activities and walking Murphy, our dog. And occasionally playing a round of golf.
