International Women’s day 2022 – Who inspires you?

4 min read

Here we are on international women’s day, taking some time to celebrate the work and achievements of some of the women we most admire here at Aveni.

We know that for some finding your way can be difficult and often challenging, but we love to take inspiration from those who have pushed boundaries and shown us what is possible!

So in honor of today, we will shine the light on some amazing people in our lives. We hear from a few of our colleagues here at Aveni and find out who has made an impact in their lives.

Here’s to woman empowerment!

Who inspires you and why?

Amy – Product Owner

There isn’t one specific person that inspires me personally but I find myself inspired by women who don’t necessarily build their life based on what is generally socially accepted or what was once considered normal convention for women. There are lots of things that are expected and followed through because that is just the “done thing” but when we live our lives on autopilot, out of social pressure or preconceived necessity, life loses its real meaning and value.

It’s inspiring to see women make positions that previously hadn’t been held by females, showing little girls that these things are possible. It’s inspiring to see women openly and proudly make decisions for themselves, whether that be keeping their own last name in marriage, choosing not to marry, putting their career first, becoming a stay at home mum, becoming a working mum, not wanting children at all, working in a male dominated industry, working in jobs that were typically associated with women, enjoying & excelling at hobbies & sports that weren’t “typical” for females, – it shouldn’t matter.

We’ve come a long way since the Suffragettes but we still have a long way to go. We need to drop the bias, stereotypes and discrimination.

What matters is that male or female, you are true to what feels right for you and you do your best to be a good person along the way. Everyone is different and this should be valued and celebrated.

 Chloe – Designer

My mum! My mum had me while training to be an inner-city GP in some of the most challenging areas of London. But that’s nowhere near all she does; remaining a freelancer so she could spend time with me growing up, she also teaches & trains new doctors to be great communicators, coaches doctors, dentists & nurses who are looking for their next career steps, and studies for a Ph.D. in Medical humanities, and much more.

Leng – Engineer

Definitely my parents! 100%! They always show their love to me and have been supporting me unconditionally for years and years. My mom is the one I can share my little secrets and discuss lots of random stuff, such as “gossip”, makeup, life advice, etc. My dad is my great teacher who has taught me a lot of social conventions and shares with me his advice and thoughts on life/society etc. They’ve always been my inspiration and remind me to be a better person. To me, they are not just my parents, but also my best teachers and friends.

It’s International Women’s Day and I hope all the women/girls around the world will have the confidence to express themselves as much as possible,  dress freely, and not be bound by any stereotypes and rules.  Every female deserves to think independently and live our life to the fullest. Proud to be born as a woman :)))

Katie – Marketing Manager

I could list dozens of women who inspire me but this year, reflective of my own personal circumstances, I’m particularly inspired by working mums.  The mums who work because they have to or the mums who work because they want to, the juggling is real and all of the working mums in my life have made an impact in my own approach to balancing a career with happy children.

My younger self would read glossy magazines discussing the trials that women face balancing motherhood with employment and think “surely it can’t be that hard?”.  Fast forward to 2022 and with three children under 4, I can now appreciate that yes it is indeed that hard!  So for every woman who feels guilty about the challenges and conflicts that being a working mum brings I say, you are all superwomen!
